Ford Motor Company Recalls Defective Trucks, SUVs

Ford has issued several recalls of vehicles, including popular truck and SUV models, because the vehicles were found to be defective and potentially dangerous for consumers and other motorists on roadways.

Among the recalled motor vehicles is the F-150 truck series, one of the auto company’s most popular lines of cars. In fact, the F-Series trucks have been the best-selling vehicles in the United States for several decades.

In total, Ford Motor Company is calling for returns of approximately 285,000 vehicles across the five recalls. The majority of the recalled trucks and SUVs were manufactured and distributed in North America, with most of the recalls affecting vehicles on the road in the United States.

The largest recall involves the 2011-2012 Ford F-150, the 2012 Ford Expedition and the 2012 Ford Mustang. A transmission problem in the vehicles is affecting the speed sensor, causing cars to suddenly downshift into first gear and resulting in at least three known car accidents. Approximately 200,000 vehicles are being recalled so that auto dealers can inspect the cars and install upgraded software that will stop the motor vehicles from unexpectedly downshifting. Additionally, Ford has agreed to replace materials on recalled vehicles that have fewer than 150,000 miles on them.

The second-largest recall involves Ford Explorers that were found to suffer from poor welding in the suspension systems. The end result of the manufacturing problem is that the rear suspension systems have the potential to cracked, which can make it harder for drivers to maintain control of the wheel. To date, there has been at least one car accident caused by the faulty suspension systems. Ford will be replacing the rear suspension toe links and aligning the rear suspension on the recalled vehicles.
