Construction workers injured when New Jersey home collapses

When New Jersey residents take on an occupation, they do not often think about the risks associated with the position. Having a stable income is their main concern, but when a worker is unable to work due to an injury that occurred in the workplace, they seek to regain and maintain that income. The benefit of workers’ compensation is crucial in these situations whether or not a worker was aware of any or all of the risk associated with their employment. Recovering lost wages is important for injured workers so they are not financially affected while they recover.

While working on a home in New Jersey that was damaged by super storm Sandy, several construction workers were injured when the house collapsed. The two-story home in Little Egg Harbor Township collapsed around 5 p.m. when workers were jacking up the home.

Emergency crews were called to the site and assessed the injuries suffered by the four injured workers. One suffered back, neck and foot injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment. Two others were treated at the hospital but their injuries were not reported at this time. The fourth injured worker refused treatment at the work site.

The work site accident is still under investigation to determine what caused the house to collapse. Those that were injured in the accident could file for workers’ compensation. While the worker is receiving medical treatment and is recovering from the injuries, this benefit could help cover medical bills, rehabilitation and lost wages.

Some accidents just happen and cannot be prevented. After a workplace accident occurs, employers should seek to increase safety and implement more training in order to prevent on-the-job injuries. It is also crucial that hurt employees recover properly so they can return to work and avoid getting injured further.
