Car Crashes into Dump Truck on Garden State Parkway in Holmdel, NJ

A motor vehicle accident on the Garden State Parkway resulted in serious injuries to at least one person and significant property damage.

The auto accident occurred around 9:30 a.m. on the Garden State Parkway, near milepost 115.7 in Holmdel, New Jersey. The driver of a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze was traveling south on the GSP when she hit the back of a dump truck that had been parked on the right shoulder of the highway. Thankfully, no one was inside the truck at the time of the collision.

The driver of the car that slammed into the truck is a 76-year-old woman. She was briefly treated at the scene of the accident by members of the Holmdel First Aid Squad before being airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, NJ. Once the auto accident victim was at the hospital, doctors provided further medical treatment for her crash-related injuries. She was later listed in stable condition and was fully expected to survive.

After the truck accident, authorities worked to clear debris from the highway and investigated the cause of the collision. While this was going on, the Garden State Parkway express lanes were shut down for nearly four hours.

At this time, NJ State Police investigators have not yet determined what might have caused the motorist to hit the parked dump truck. Depending on the outcome of the investigation, it is possible that the driver could potentially be cited for a moving violation such as reckless driving or careless driving.

Regardless of the findings of investigators, it is possible that the injured motorist may be able to file a personal injury lawsuit in order to receive compensation for her injuries and to cover the costs of repairs to her vehicle. For instance, she may be able to sue the manufacturer of the car by filing a product liability claim that alleges that the accident was caused by a defective auto part.
