Applegate Farms Issues Recall of Chicken Nuggets due to Presence of Plastic in Packages

US organic meat distributor Applegate Farms recently announced that it has issued a recall of several thousand packages of the company’s popular chicken nuggets.

Applegate Farms, a major distributor of natural and organic deli meats in the United States, said that it is recalling approximately 9,000 packages of Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets. The company’s products, which include chicken nuggets, can be found in grocery stores and other food retailers in New York, Pennsylvania, Florida and elsewhere in the U.S.

The recall was issued because some consumers reported finding tiny pieces of plastic in the eight-ounce packages of chicken nuggets. It is believed that consumption of the chicken nuggets could lead to significant health problems – perhaps due to food contamination or particularly if someone ends up unknowingly consuming plastic pieces.

After receiving word of the presence of plastic pieces in the chicken nugget containers, Applegate Farms officials quickly traced the problem to the final stages of mixing and producing the food item. Meanwhile, the company continues to investigate, so more information about the cause of the food contamination could be forthcoming.

Although there have been no reported illnesses suffered by anyone consuming the food item, Applegate Farms decided to exercise extreme caution (and possibly avoid a potential product liability lawsuit) and recall the affected food products before someone got seriously ill.

The only products that have been recalled at this time are the company’s chicken nugget products containing a label reading “Best Before September 27, 2016” and marked by USDA inspectors with establishment number “P-2617.”

If you or someone you know has recently bought frozen chicken nuggets, it is important to make sure that you did not buy the potentially dangerous food item that has been recalled. In the event that you did purchase Applegate chicken nuggets, you can return the product to the grocery store for a full refund.
